This weeks Activity:

What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid? If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?

Well, one would be The Ugly Duckling. I hail from an urban poor community and the only chance I got then to see colored picture books was through a Day Care Center where a lone teacher teaches a horde of noisy little children. The only time we behave was when the teacher hush us for a story. The story-telling time was my favorite part of the day then. It's because of the images I saw from the picture books that I decided to enhance my drawing skills.

What sets apart the story of the Ugly Duckling from other books is that well... because the ugly duckling was unique among the brace of ducks. As a child, I always felt alone and out of place, even inside my own house. I know that you know how the story goes for this book. Just imagine how I could relate.

The other ones would be Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.

I don't have kids yet. But if ever I'm going to read them stories, picture books or not, I might impart to them Dr. Seuss and if possible, Roald Dahl if he got any of his books in pictures. Honestly, I haven't read any Dr. Seuss books yet but I heard a lot about them. They are full of lessons to learn that many of my friends quote from them through text messages. I don't plan to read any Dr. Seuss book soon but I consider reading them the first time along with my future kids. For sure, I'd also read to them Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.

  6. Welcome to the FF, it's so much fun :-) The Ugly Duckling is a great one and I think most kids feel like the outsider at some point, so it's appealing. Great picks!

  11. Though I haven't read the ugly duckling when I was a kid, I saw the movie and it was both sad and fun. I'm sure that I cried when ugly was bullied by her siblings and mother. That goes the same for Alice too; I only watched the movie but didn't read the book until I was 12ish.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. New bloglovin follower.
