This week's Activity:

What living author or authors would you like to have dinner with? (Try to think beyond JK Rowling)

I think I would love to have dinner with Michael J. Sullivan. He's a great author. I would love to have dinner with George R.R. Martin but so many people have done interviews with him already that I don't think I could come up with more intelligent questions. And dinner wouldn't be simply eating food but sensible talk. William Goldman would have been my first option (his presentation of The Princess Bride as abridgment, written by someone else, though no such book exists was just pure genius!) but he was so much a celebrity in his time that I'd rather have a great author who isn't that much known be given a chance for more exposure because dinner with me would most likely be an interview and I would love my author be known to the world. So before I'd have dinner with Goldman, I'd have dinner with Sullivan first.

Michael Sullivan gained fame with The Riyria Revelations series on 2012 making him a fresh author. Details were written about his life and struggles as a writer in his next series, The Riyria Chronicles but I'd like to know more about him. Both M.J. Sullivan and G.R.R. Martin idolize Goldman due to his use of humor in his movies and books. So I think talking about William Goldman will be a possible starter if I were to talk with Sullivan. So yeah, I'd love to talk with Martin but I think I'd get intimidated by him.

Years ago, I loved the idea of talking with Stephen King but I was offended with what he said about Douglas Adams after he died. To me, what he said was as if Douglas Adams wasn't born to be a writer. He claimed that D. Adams was a great writer but writing wasn't much in him. To me, it is not necessary that the life of an author should revolve around writing like what writing did for Stephen King. What if Adams was just a multi-talented person that he'd rather do other things other than dedicate his life for writing? I think writing one great series is enough to be validated not just as a writer but a great author. So I got to cross out Stephen King on my list.

!Update! Nov 2014 It was not Stephen King who said that but Neil Gaiman. I APOLOGIZE DEEPLY. I read a book of each of them from about the same time that I read Neil Gaiman's comment of Douglas Adams. I think synesthesia had done its part for my mistake.

Lastly, I would like to have dinner with Anne Rice. She's a woman so I don't think I'll have awkward moments with her. I have a preconceived notion that if not entirely sexist, there's always a sexist in men. And thus, I'd get nervous with the idea of talking with the aforementioned male authors. I have my hands down for Anne Rice not because of the Vampire Chronicles series but because of her erortic, renowned BDSM series, The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty.

They're all the greatest authors I could think of having dinner with (with J.K. Rowling being exempted and J.R.R. Tolkien long dead).

    1. Liezel and Liesel, I'm not sure I could have dinner with Martin. He's killed off some of the best characters! I might be tempted to find a way to poison him. :)

Thanks for stopping by Second Run Reviews earlier.

    2. @Terri. Oh no, I'd rather not have him poisoned. So far, I'm fine with all of the characters he had killed. But seriously, I don't want anything bad to happen to Gendry or Aegon because I bet that they're the other two dragon heads.

  13. Interesting list! I actually picked GRRM because I really want to find out what happens in ASOIAF, those cliffhangers! I'm not familiar with M.J. Sullivan but he sounds interesting, I may have to check him out!

Great list! Happy FF! New GFC and Twitter follower.
