Foodgasm: Leona Cakes and Pastries SM City Cebu

Leona Cakes and Pastries

My classmate was celebrating her 35th birthday and she posted a photo of her beautiful cake slices. I can't help but be awed by the beauty of cakes. They all look so delicious! The only problem was that I don't have a sweet tooth and am not fond of cakes. Still, that didn't stop me from venturing on a cake hunt.

Scouring the internet, I found that there's this cake restaurant that's only exclusive in Cebu and has been around for 15 years (they tried to expand more but closed some shops eventually). There's a branch on the North Wing of SM City Cebu and so, off I went along with my siblings to finish all the cakes since I only wanted to taste them.

Compared to easily accessible cake shop like Red Ribbon, Leona Cakes & Pastries' cakes are cheap! Well, their cheesecakes cost more.

I really wanted to try their beautiful-looking Mango Jubilee (and mango's my second all-time favorite flavor, next to raspberry) but I didn't see it on the shop. What I did find though was Blueberry Cheesecake (which was not available on their website)! So now, I don't have to go hunting for a blueberry cheesecake.

These are what I ordered:

Let's discuss the drinks first. The sencha (Japanese style green tea) was bitter but not as bitter matcha according to my bro. I haven't tasted other green teas so I can't really compare. I love the green tea since it neutralizes the sweetness of the cakes (I don't have sweet tooth).

Meanwhile, their chocolate smoothie is nothing but iced cocoa powder (perhaps, with some condensed milk). I haven't tasted it but that's what my bro said. For the price, I think P95 for it was too much considering that you can buy cocoa powder at a very cheap price regardless of the brand. Anyhow, perhaps it's harder to prepare than their cakes.

For their cakes, I have nothing to complain. They're all tasty! Every penny is worth it. The slice is just the right size too (typical of cake slices).

Mango Sansrival is definitely my favorite. If you've tasted Negros' famous mango sansrival before, Leona could rival them. In fact, Leona's mango sansrival tasted better. It's more creamy and the abundance of nuts added to the surprise crispy factor. I love the marriage of grit and creaminess.
